One Year After Kremlin Opponent’s Death (February 16, 2024)

It's one year after Alexei Navalny's death. What do Russians think of him now? Our online survey data show little change between Mar-Oct '24, then disapproval began to increase. In early Jan '24-25, there was a fairly sharp drop in strong disapproval.
Our data also show a similar (but less dramatic) drop in Putin approval around the same time. Perhaps the sample composition shifted during the NY holidays with certain types of people opting out of surveys at this time. This requires more digging in the data.
Since March 2024 we also began asking about approval of Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya, who has said that she will continue his work. Attitudes toward Navalnaya closely mirror those toward her husband, with perhaps a slight increase in disapproval over time.
These data come from our daily online survey of Russian public opinion. We note that these data have not been weighted to reflect the socio-demographic composition of the Russian population.
